The first rule of professional writing is You Can't Edit Your Own Copy. That's because it is all too easy to miss your own mistakes in spelling and grammar, style etc.

Spelling Checkers help a little but are not the answer. They miss far too many mistakes because of context. For example, there, their and they're are all spelled correctly, but have totally different meanings. Which is the right one? And do you want US (American) spelling, English spelling or Australian spelling? They're all slightly different!

Yes, I did sub-edit (and proofread) my own copy here. But I'm a trained and skilled professional. I worked as a sub-editor (a trained Journalist) in Australia and overseas before any of us knew what the Internet was.
